1/ How does the visitor come to Vaux le Vicomte when he doesn’t own a car? On certain days, shuttles run from Paris or from Melun station to the château. For more information, please click here. You also can get a taxi at the station in Melun.
1/ Is there a charge for the car park? No. It is totally free of charge, even for the coaches. 2/ Are the camper vans allowed to park during the night? Our car parks are locked every evening thus the camper vans cannot remain parked at night. 3/ Is there a special access for handicapped persons? Yes, there is an access located on the right of the Main Gates (Grandes Grilles).
1/ How long does a visit last? No, ther aren't , but
we can give you a list of guides to you and you’ll have to get in touch with them directly (from 150 euros) or rent audioguides on site. No, the reservation is free of charge. 4/ What is the minimum number of persons required to get the group entrance fee? To be considered as a group, there must be at least 20 persons. 5/ What is the difference between the pass and the simple visit? Yes, as long as you tell the counter clerk and you must have your entrance ticket and your ID if you have an electronic ticket (bought online). 7) Can the handicapped persons visit the whole Estate? Is there a special pricing? The reduced fare is applied for the disabled persons. The Carriage Museum and the garden are easily accessible. As for the chateau, only the ground floor can be reached with a wheelchair. You can ask for a little help to climb the 20 stairs leading to it. 8/ Is it possible to pay with an American Express card? Yes, you can pay with the American Express card at the ticket office but NOT at the restaurant.
1/ How long is the validity of a ticket bought online? The tickets for the day visit and the candlelight visit are valid during the whole season. As for the tickets for the special events (17th century dressed up feast, theatre, etc.), they are valid only on the specific day. The “Christmas at Vaux le Vicomte” ticket is valid from December 19th, to January 3rd.
Catering 1/ Are the visitors allowed to have a picnic in the garden? No, picnics are not allowed inside the Estate. But outside the Estate, near the car park, there is a sheltered area dedicated to the picnics. Thus you can get out of the Estate to have your picnic (but you’ve got to tell the counter clerck – Please see the previous paragraph about the Visits / Ticket office (6)) Otherwise there are two catering areas within the Estate (The “Ecureuil” and the “Charmilles”). 2/ What are the catering fares at the “Ecureuil”? Please see the website page here. 3/ Is it necessary to book a table in advance at the “Charmilles”? As those dinners are quite successful, we strongly recommend to reserve in advance either from our website or by phone. 4/ How does one proceed to the reservation? From our website, on the “online reservation” page or by phone: 01.60.66.95.66. 5/ Does the visitor have to pay an entrance fee to go and have his dinner at the “Charmilles”? Yes, one has to pay an entrance fee even if one only wants to have a dinner. This ticket will enable the visitor to visit the Château, the garden and the Carriage Museum.
1/ At what time can a visitor enter the Estate with a ticket for the candlelight visit? With such a ticket, everybody can enter the Estate from 2 pm on. 2/ What is the candlelight visit? The Château and its garden are lighted up with around 2000 candles thus recreating the XVIIth Century’s atmosphere. 3/ Does one has to book and buy his ticket in advance? No reservation is required there is no need to buy the ticket in advance. The tickets are sold on the spot. 4/ Is it usually crowded? It may be crowded on certain Saturday evenings. One may have to queue a little. 5/ Is it possible to visit the Château twice? It is possible to visit the Château in the afternoon and in the evening. No, they only take place on Saturdays from May to the beginning of october. Clubcars 1/ Is it possible to reserve a clubcar in advance? No, it has to be hired on the spot. 2/ Is it possible to hire a clubcar during the candlelight visit? No, this is not possible. Children 1/ Are there any activities for children? We offer to the children a booklet called “The Great mystery game”. This free teaching tool is to be used during the visit of the Château, so that the kid can have fun while visiting the castle. The booklet exists in frenchn english and dutch. There is also a treasure hunt booklet for the gardens in french. Parents can also hire costumes for their children. When particular events take place, free activities for kids are set up (please see our website to peruse the details. For more personalises resquests, please send us a mail here 2/ Is it possible to book the costumes in advance? No, this is not possible. 3/ What are the costumes sizes? The costumes can suit children from 2 years old up to 12 years old. 4/ Can one be certain to get a costume when one arrives? We do have many costumes but according to the crowds we may have to ask you to wait a short moment. 5/ Are the pushchairs allowed within the Château? No, they are not. But they can remain outside the Château or in the Hall and taken back at the end of the visit. They can be used anywhere else in the Estate. Weddings 1/ Is it possible to take weddings pictures? Yes, but only in the garden. 2/ What is the entrance fare? The fare to get into the garden is 8 euros per person. Free entrance for the photograph. 3/ Is it possible to hire a room to celebrate a wedding? Yes. Weddings are regularly organized at Vaux le Vicomte. The ceremonies take place in the Château’s rooms and the receptions may also take place in the outbuildings. For any further information, please click here.
